On July 3rd, 2006, in the Magna Aula of Charles University’s Carolinas in Prague, the Prague Summer Program, then under the auspices of Western Michigan University, presented honorary doctorates for literature to two great Czech writers, president Václav Havel and Arnošt Lustig.

What comes to mind when you hear the name Arnošt Lustig?
Perhaps not much, perhaps nothing , and that would be a shame. FestivAL100, an international celebration of humanity, is being created to mark the 100th anniversary of Arnošt Lustig’s birth. The program conveys a message about the power of humanity as reflected in his work.
At the same time, it emphasizes inalienable human rights, without which “man is just an animal that speaks human language.”
